Soko Poker
Soko Poker is a poker game that is offered by more and more online poker rooms. It is also known as Canadian Stud or Scandinavian Stud and is a variation on the existing game Five Card Stud.
Soko is played with five cards and is different than most poker games because you can make 4-card flushes and straights, as well as ‘normal’ flushes and straights of five cards. The handranking is as follows:
Straight Flush
Four of a Kind
Full House
Flush
Straight
Three of a Kind
Two Pair
Four-Card Flush
Four-Card Straight
One Pair
High Card
Every player gets dealt one card face open and four cards face down. Like 5-Card Sud, Soko Poker does not have a structure with blinds. Every player pays an ante before the hand starts and is dealt two cards, one open and one closed. When everyone got their two cards, the first betting round starts. The player with the high card opens the betting after which the betting continues clockwise around the table. Players can check, call or fold their hand. Then a next round starts with a card face up and a betting round. This goes on untill all players have one open card and four cards face down in front of them. The player with the highest combination wins the pot.
Soko is a popular game in the Scandinavian poker community – hence the game is also known as Scandinavian Stud. This is also the ground for the name Canadian Stud. There is quite a big Scandinavian community in Canada, who also happen to play Soko. The word ‘Soko’ comes from the Finnish word Söko, which means ‘check’.
You can try Soko Poker for free at different online poker sites. Just give it try, it’s a fun game!
