Belgium player blinded off at Main Event WSOP | Online Poker Bonus

Poker News·

A remarkable story from day 3 of the World Series of Poker. For a lot of poker players, playing in the Main Event of the WSOP is a dream come true. So when you are playing in the biggest poker tournament of the year, sitting on an average stack on day 3 you are a very happy man right??

Well, a Belgium player thought otherwise as he took a plane home before the start of day 3. There must be a very good reason for that you think? The story goes like this:

Philip Goossens qualified for the Main Event of the WSOP on Bwin Poker. The online poker room paid for the tournament plus hotel and travel expenses till July 12. In case the qualifier would make day 3 of the tournament Bwin promised to extend the hotel room. The qualifier had to pay to costs for rebooking his flight.

Goossens was out of money though, so he asked a Bwin manager to pay for the rebooking of his flight. The manager told him that this wasn’t possible because if they would, they had to pay this for all the qualifiers. The Belgian then made the decision to leave Las Vegas and take the plane home because he just didn’t have the money to stay longer and rebook his flight. On his Facebook page he explained his decision:

“Dear friends, the Vegas experience is over. First of all THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT!! With my head up high I left the tournament because I had no other choice (out of money, no more clothes, book a new flight, work, lonelyness and of course my girlfriend back home). To survive day 3 would have been very hard and I wasn’t willing to pay a 1000 euro for that. It was a MEGA experience (photo’s will follow suit).”

And before the start of the Main Event he was so optimistic:

A sad story, but personally I think the whole thing is bizarre. He could have easily sold a few % of his Main Event to whatever poker player was there for a good price; simple calculations show that his stack is worth around $30,000. Fact of the matter is that Goossens’ stack was blinded off during the day and at the end of day 3 he was left with 3 big blinds..
